Ecological Statement

SUSTAINABLY GROWN TEAK

Teak (Tectona grandis), a durable hardwood, performs beautifully in any climate. Teak's high oil and rubber content make it virtually immune to rot. When Britannia ruled the waves, teak's weatherproof qualities made it the first choice for sailing vessels. After tall wooden ships became obsolete, ships' carpenters fashioned the first teak benches from salvaged timbers, and a tradition was born.

Quality teak furniture can last a very long time - many classic English park benches are still in regular use today after 70 years.

Natural teak timber varies widely in color from soft, even blond to rich patterns of golden amber and deep brown. When the furniture is outdoors and untreated, the sun and rain will change all colors to an even, warm, silvery gray. Exceptionally strong and durable, remaining smooth to the touch, teak furnishings last for decades through bright sun, rain, snow and a wide range of seasonal temperatures without paint or preservatives.

Country Casual only uses ecologically harvested A-grade timber from countries with an official commitment to sustainable management of their national timber resources. For every tree felled, more than one is planted to replace it. These renewable timber resources play an important part in the economies of developing nations.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

Country Casual is committed to renewable resources and environmentally conscious business practices. We require that only ecologically grown and harvested timbers from managed, sustainable forests be used in the manufacture of our teak furnishings. We strive to use recycled papers and cardboard in packaging and reduce waste in business operations.
