CARING FOR TEAK OUTDOOR FURNITURE

Do nothing - teak requires no treatment

Teak (Tectona grandis) is an immensely stable timber, dense in nature, ideal for garden furniture. Natural teak timber varies widely in color from soft, even blonde to rich patterns of golden amber and deep brown. When the furniture is outdoors and untreated, the sun and rain will change all colors to an even, warm, silvery gray. Exceptionally strong and durable, remaining smooth to the touch, immune to warp and rot, teak furnishings last for decades through bright sun, rain, snow and a wide range of seasonal temperatures without any care.  Teak requires no preservatives - we offer a variety of products for other aesthetic options.

Protect table tops
Repel water and moisture and prevent staining on table tops caused by food and drinks with TEAK WATER & STAIN GUARD. Apply to untreated, unsealed teak so stain protection can adhere to the surface of the wood.  Once dry, the wood may appear slightly darker.  For best results, reapply a few times annually. Use 1 liter for several applications on a mid-size dining set. Indefinite shelf life.

Maintain the Silvery Gray Color
SILVER TEAK SHIELD allows teak to weather to a soft silvery gray while inhibiting the growth of mold and mildew. This water-based product is colorless and can be applied to new or recently cleaned teak.

Retain or Refurbish Golden Color
GOLDEN SEALER will maintain the color of new teak so the wood does not weather to gray. An initial two-coat application and a single recoat of the Sealer on dry furniture at yearly intervals will preserve the new-teak color (some climates may require more frequent applications). Our Golden Sealer is a unique water-based blend of UV protectants, mildew inhibitors and pigments.

Protect against Stains
CLEAR COAT GLOSS provides a surface more impervious to water and stains. It is useful on tabletops and where water and stain protection are needed. Clear Coat Gloss must be applied over an application of Golden Sealer. It is not recommended for use on unfinished teak.

Deep Clean
Single-step TEAK CLEANER restores weathered furniture to a light blonde color. The water-based cleaner removes dirt, oil, graying, stains and old sealers. Apply Teak Sealer to prevent furniture from weathering again. Quantity required will vary with condition of the wood being cleaned.

Strip Clean
Our TWO-PART CLEANER is the most thorough way to deep clean teak furniture. This stronger, solvent based cleaner will remove the gray color, prior finishes, mold or mildew, and lighten and brighten the wood.  Quantity required will vary with condition of the wood being cleaned.

Surface Clean
Teak should never be power-washed as this could damage the wood. An occasional wash with warm, soapy water removes moss. Add extra cleaning strength by using Simple Green®. This non-toxic product, found in grocery and hardware stores, cleans the surface without disturbing the silvery gray patina.

Apply Paint or Stain
Should you wish to apply color to your furniture, we suggest using a high-quality exterior penetrating stain. We do not recommend painting teak furniture because of its high oil content. Consult your local paint specialist for further information. When placing an order, request wood samples for testing.
